It’s getting to be that hot and humid time of year again. And if you have oily skin and/or chronic breakouts, Florida summer presents a real challenge.
Fortunately, oily skin is something we see a lot in the skincare industry, especially for Bradenton estheticians. And that means the skincare industry has come up with a lot of solutions, and our professional skincare practitioners are well-versed in all of these techniques.
Long gone are the days of grabbing a harsh cleanser off the shelf and scrubbing all of your skin’s oils away—a “solution” that can actually increase breakouts! Today, we have the expertise to examine your skin and your lifestyle and offer you the procedure or product (or a custom combination of the two!) that will sooth your summertime oily skin and banish your breakouts.
Why does oily skin happen?
The root cause of oily skin is simply that your skin is making too much sebum, which is a natural oil released from the pores to protect your skin and keep it moist. So of course, the key is to figure out why this overproduction is happening…
- Genetics absolutely plays a role in oily skin. It might just be something your genes that believes your skin needs more sebum than it really does.
- Age can be another factor, though that works in both directions. Younger skin tends to produces more sebum (we all remember our teenage years), but so do larger pores. And when your skin ages, your pores tend to become bigger due to the general loss of elasticity in your skin.
- Dry or irritated skin can trigger oil production. So over-washing or skipping your moisturizer could actually be making the oily skin worse.
- Heat and humidity are definitely a trigger, too, which is why Bradenton skincare specialists are so well-versed in solutions for oily skin!
Oily skin is annoying enough in its own right, but when pores get even slightly clogged, the overproduction of sebum will quickly cause breakouts.
How does Bellagena Med Spa & Skincare Studio treat oily skin in Bradenton’s hot, humid summers?
For some of us, oily skin is a year-round battle. But even more will face it as a seasonal challenge, especially here.
Stopping oil production is a tricky task. If you remove too much sebum, you leave your skin vulnerable to irritants and infections.
As with so many issues, the key to mitigating your oily skin—without causing more problems in the process—is first to understand the underlying issue. Once we know that, we can perform one (or a combination of) these procedures, and/or recommend one (or a combination of) these products.
- Microneedling (w/ Clarifying Solution): On its own, microneedling triggers collagen production, which helps to tighten pores that have expanded with age. The procedure can also facilitate a better, more penetrative delivery of a clarifying solution (based on skin type and condition) that will exfoliate (removing dead skin cells that can block pores) and remove excess oil from the pores themselves.
- Face Reality: The Face Reality company specializes in treating oily skin and acne using extensive research to develop a full range of products that can be customized in combination with one another. Your professional esthetician can assess your skin and recommend a safe and effective combo of Face Reality products.
- Vi Peel Purify: This professional peel treatment clears pores and reduces inflammation, while also crucially eliminating the bacteria that causes acne.
- Tretinoin: A type of Vitamin A, tretinoin increases cellular turnover and can even decrease sebum production by shrinking pores.
- 5% Mandelic Serum: Available from Face Reality (among other brands), 5% mandelic serum is a gentle, exfoliating, water-based hydroxy acid. (Also available in 8%.)
- Tea Tree Mask: A tried-and-true natural ingredient, tea tree clarifies pores, including excess sebum, and even has antiseptic properties.
- Clearderma: Another Face Reality product, clearDerma provides your skin with healthy, lightweight moisture, which reduces the skin’s oil-producing response.
As you can see, there really are many effective options out there for oily skin! This is a big topic to navigate, so we encourage you to see your friendly Bradenton esthetician in order to develop an oily skin plan just in time for summer!
