Here in southwest Florida, we live for the sunshine, right? This is the Sunshine State, after all, and Sarasota-Bradenton is known as the Suncoast. Right now it’s spring break, and soon it’ll be summer. And with our great weather and fabulous beaches, we’ve always got a good excuse for getting out and enjoying our fabulous sunshine.

But we also know that sunshine causes skin damage, pure and simple. Sun-damaged skin is both an aesthetic issue as well as a health condition. And one of our primary goals at our Bradenton med spa is to help your body naturally remove sun-damaged cells.

It may surprise you to learn, but a great treatment for Florida’s intense sunlight is, in fact, more light—“Intense Pulsed Light,” to be exact. At Bellagena, your Bradenton intense pulsed light experience will leave you with smoother, more consistent skin tones and a more youthful overall appearance—so your skin will look that much better in our fabulous Suncoast sunshine.

What is Intense Pulsed Light?

Intense Pulsed Light is an aesthetic skin treatment that promotes the shedding of damaged, aging and unwanted skin cells from the outermost layers of your epidermis.

How Does Intense Pulsed Light Work?

IPL utilizes multiple wavelengths, or a broad spectrum of light energy, to affect skin cells that have been damaged by a variety of conditions.

Damaged skin cells stand out from healthy ones. They cause bumps and other textural differences, as well as pigmentation oddities, spots and even scars.

The heat generated by the pulsed light during an IPL treatment causes damaged skin cells to break down even further. Once they’re broken down, the body naturally removes these damaged cells, leaving the healthy, youthful skin cells to shine through.

After you receive Bradenton intense pulsed light therapy, your body will immediately begin working to remove these damaged cells. This removal process happens naturally, quickly and noninvasively, without abrasion or incisions.

Unlike invasive procedures, IPL only affects skin cells that are already damaged; healthy cells retain their smooth youthfulness.

IPL vs. Laser Therapy

Both IPL and laser treatments use light energy to break down damaged skin cells. However, lasers only use a single wavelength, while IPL harnesses a spectrum of light energy.

Because different skin cells respond to different forms of energy, IPL’s multiple wavelengths can treat a variety of skin conditions all at once.

What Kinds of Skin Conditions Can Be Treated by IPL?

IPL is used to trigger the body’s natural removal of damaged skin cells that make up

  • Scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Birthmarks and freckles
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Discoloration

In addition to sun damage, which causes wrinkles, blotchy pigmentation issues and an overall uneven skin tone, our Bradenton intense pulsed light treatment targets cells that have been damaged by

  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Melasma
  • Liver spots
  • Stretch marks
  • Skin trauma from surgery or injury
