In our previous blog, we discussed skincare as part of a whole-body, holistic wellness approach. We emphasized the ways skincare, physical maintenance, and mental health all play into one another. When you take a positive step in one part of your wellness, the other aspects benefit, too.

Being mindful of these benefits, and thank yourself for these positive steps, help to make them a bigger priority in your life.

At the same time, a consistent wellness routine can ensure that you continue to account for healthy behavior even on those days when you’ve got other things on your mind.

Here are some ways to establish a healthy wellness routine that incorporates skincare alongside mindfulness, sleep, and nutrition.

A New Routine Doesn’t Have to Be Entirely “New”

Establishing an entirely new routine sounds like a lot of work. And let’s face it, it’s probably just about impossible.

After all, as important as wellness is, most of us have other important things in our life, too. And it’s not realistic—nor is it healthy—to abandon your passions in the name of a strict new regimen.

Instead, take a day or two to be mindful of the routine you’re already performing. Chances are you have a someone consistent daily schedule when it comes to meals, work hours, school runs, bedtime etc. You probably also have weekly and even monthly routines.

Instead of changing that schedule, consider it the framework for your wellness practices. You’re already consistent in certain ways. Your existing schedule isn’t a constraint; it’s an opportunity.

Start Strong (and Calm)

Wellness starts first thing in the morning. And skincare makes for an excellent start.

By starting your day in the same way, with skincare, you eliminate the possibility of neglecting your wellness. You ensure that every day will have at least one healthy, positive step to it. And from there, it’s so much easier to keep taking more.

Cleansing and moisturizing are great everyday skincare maintenance practices. They also allow you to center your mind and thank yourself for that great start!

Give Yourself the Tools You Need

There’s no excuse quite as effective as, “I can’t do it because I don’t have [XYZ] right now.” That is the enemy of a healthy routine.

Instead, set yourself up for success. And that includes equipping yourself with the skincare products you need at home, and on the go.

Instead of leaving the house without sunscreen and thinking, “I guess I’ll have to try harder tomorrow,” keep sunscreen in your purse, or car, or desk at work.

Stopping by the med spa for your monthly facial? Stock up on products while you’re here—including backup products for your office! Incorporate convenient wellness practices into your existing routine. (The same philosophy applies to healthy snacks and water bottles.)

Work With What (and Who) You Have

Speaking of excuses, don’t abandon wellness on behalf of a family or social life. Combine them!

Skincare can be a fantastic hands-on learning opportunity for kids. Let them apply the moisturizer or give you their own version of a facial. You’ll help your skin out while inspiring healthy practices in your children, too.

Likewise, there’s nothing better than a spa day with friends. (And guys, we’re looking at you, too.) Why not make it a monthly meetup? It’s joyful, social, and good for you.

End at the Beginning

Just as skincare readies you for the day ahead, it also allows you to wind down before sleep. And it’s one last opportunity to be grateful for the ways you cared for yourself—and your skin—during the day.
