Summer is finally here and when you head out for a fun beach day on Anna Maria Island or are simply lounging by the pool in your backyard, make sure you are properly protecting your skin by keeping the right products in your beach bag!

Physical Sunscreen vs. Chemical Sunscreen
We all know how important sunscreen is when it comes to protecting our skin, especially here in the “Sunshine State” but did you know that there is a difference between physical sunscreen and chemical sunscreen? While physical sunscreen, often referred to as sunblock, creates a barrier by sitting on top of your skin and reflecting the sun’s harmful rays, chemical sunscreen actually absorbs the UV rays, converts them into heat, and then releases them from your body.

Checking the Label
While it is important to make sunscreen a regimented part of your skincare routine, it is important to keep in mind that not all sunscreens are created equal. Physical sunblock is a mineral-based sunscreen that uses ingredients like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to protect your skin against sun damage. We recommend trying the Sanitas Solarblock which is a safe and natural option that offers complete protection from the full spectrum of UV rays using an antioxidant nutrient blend. It absorbs quickly without clogging your pores and is safe to use for a wide variety of skin types including sensitive, dry, normal, or oily. They also get extra points for being paraben-free and gluten-free! Check out our current July special where you receive a free 3-piece travel set when you purchase $125 of Sanitas Products.

Don’t Forget Your Lips
We apply sunscreen to our face and body but dermatologists are seeing that the number one part of the skin that we forget about is our lips! The skin on our lips also absorbs harmful rays and can be damaged over time without the right protection. That is why we are excited to announce that Bella Skin by Bellagena has officially launched the Lip Crack Tinted Lip SPF-45. This physical sunblock for your lips works as a moisturizing treatment and contains antioxidants like vitamins C and E to help reduce inflammation, stimulate collagen production, and help repair visible damage. Make it a staple of your daily skincare routine and pick it up at the Spa for only $13.99.

Shaving Best Practices
We often find ourselves reaching for the razor more often during the summer days and that can lead to ingrown hairs and irritated skin. Avoid these painful red bumps by incorporating a routine before you shave. Exfoliating and cleansing your skin will help to remove any dead cells that can harbor bacteria or trap hairs. We highly recommend the Berodin Exfoliation Kit and Blemish Control Gel available at the Spa. While shaving, always make sure you are using warm water, shaving gel, and that you are using a sharp blade.

Other Summer Skincare Tips
There is no denying that this summer is unlike any other we have experienced before with the need to wear a mask for certain parts of our day. If you are noticing irritation or acne breakout on your face we suggest using a toner at the end of your day to make sure that there is no dirt or impurities getting stuck in your pores. Pick up the Face Reality Mandelic Toner at our Day Spa, which is not only anti-bacterial but also anti-fungal and an overall great product to have as a part of your daily skin routine. We also recommend frequently washing your mask if you are using a reusable one and giving your face a break from the mask whenever it is safe and possible.
