So we’ve made it to June 2022! How’s everybody’s skincare routine shaping up? Does anybody still remember their New Year’s health and wellness resolutions?

No worries if not! Now is a great time to take stock of your supplements and beauty products, reexamine your daily routines, and fine-tune your skin routine and your health habits for a happy, and glowing summer of 2022.

Besides, making a few changes here and there can keep you from feeling like you’re in a rut. It never hurts to see if you could be doing anything differently.

So here are some mid-season ideas from Bellagena’s own Sarasota-Bradenton skincare experts.

We’re Going to Keep Saying It: Sunscreen

This isn’t even a long-term health PSA—although sunscreen is necessary for that, too. Sun damage hurts your skin in the here and now. It dries you out, clogs your pores, and all in all, slow down your skin’s regeneration, so you’re left with those dry, damaged, uncomfortable cells even longer.

Exfoliate for Summer Skin

Chances are, that southwest Florida summer sweating has already started for you. That’s right, it’s hot and humid more often than not. And in this weather especially, your skin wants to be free to breathe!

Now’s the time to think about what kind of exfoliation works best for your skin and, if you haven’t been already, exfoliate preemptively—before you get breakouts and irritation from sweating through clogged pores.

A few exfoliation options to consider:

  • Electronic exfoliating devices: These rechargeable and/or battery-operated electric skincare tools include cleansing devices, massagers, and rotating brushes. You want to consider materials that are both durable as well as gentle on your skin.
  • Manual exfoliation devices: These include brushes, resurfacing pads, pumice stones, loofahs, sponges, and yes even your washcloth. These might be used wet or dry (or sometimes either) and with or without additional scrubs, soaps, or other products.
  • Exfoliation products: These are your exfoliating scrubs, creams, tonics, toners, liquids, etc. These “exfoliators” use all kinds of things, from microbeads to chemicals like “acid molecules” and other potentially harsh elixirs. Many professional-grade exfoliators are excellent! Some over-the-counter products are harmful. Always consult a professional before using.

Just remember: A little exfoliation goes a long way. The cleansing process shouldn’t take a lot of pressure, time, or effort, and it shouldn’t hurt. Limit yourself to one thorough, gentle exfoliation session a week. Then your skin will be good to glow!

Hydrate Your Skin, Inside and Out

With all that sweat on your body and moisture in the air, you may overlook just how much your skin needs additional hydration this time of year—yes, especially in hot and humid Florida.

That sweat isn’t really sticking on your skin; it’s actually drying you out and leaving behind oils and sebum that make your skin even more waterproof than it was before.

On top of that, you’re probably feeling pretty greasy by the end of the day. You’ll be tempted to overdo it on the cleansing routine.

But trust us: Your normal cleanser can probably handle your summer skin. What you need to do is keep yourself exfoliated (see above) so your cleanser can do its job.

Then use a good summer-conscious moisturizer that can be absorbed without immediately re-clogging your pores. You can even find fabulous moisturizers with SPF. They’re so perfect for summer you can wear them around the clock.

And of course, drink plenty of water. Your body is mostly made of water in the first place, and your skin needs a ton of it—and will be the first thing that dries out and gets compromised the second you’re the least bit dehydrated.

Congratulate Yourself—Your Skin Looks Great!

Nothing suits skincare like a smile. Stressing about your skin doesn’t help anything, and mental well-being plays as big a role in your overall health as anything else.

Whenever you need some skincare reassurance, our certified aestheticians are here for you. (And when it’s all too much, our massage therapists are here for you, too.)

In the end, our goal at Bellagena is to do what it takes to help you feel good in your own skin. There’s going to be a lot of fabulous complexions on Bradenton Beach this summer—and you’ll fit right in.
