Now available at The Day Spa Bradenton: on-location compression treatment and circulatory therapy!

It sounds simple, but this straightforward pressure therapy provides proven physical benefits and can promote healing for a number of conditions.

And when you combine compression therapy with the peaceful, healing setting at The Day Spa, Bradenton’s premier, women’s-only membership destination, you won’t believe the way it helps you heal.

What is Compression Treatment?

Technically speaking, “compression treatment” encompasses a wide variety of therapies, procedures and even garments that compress the body’s soft tissues—including muscles and skin—and the liquids they contain.

Massage therapy, for instance, emphasizes some of the healing benefits of compression therapy while pinpointing specific problem areas and providing general or more focused pressure. Compression garments, too, offer important treatment for people suffering from lymphatic issues and other swelling and fluid collection (edema) in the extremities. (Cancer patients can be especially susceptible to lymphatic issues like edema.)

Compression treatment can also include devices worn over the extremities, especially the legs, that then fill with air or water in order to provide uniform and precisely controlled pressure throughout and around the entire limb.

Like massage therapy, compression treatment can improve a range of soft-tissue conditions as well as circulation. The fact that it provides simultaneous pressure across the soft tissues throughout the entire limb is what leads to its unique benefits.

How Does Compression Treatment Help the Body?

This uniform pressure encourages blood flow in damaged tissues where blood, lymphatic waste, and other fluids might otherwise pool. This pooling is what leads to swelling, which can become painful and can even cause problems like sores and ulcers on the skin.

Swelling also further hinders circulation, which then creates more swelling.

Without adequate circulation, your injuries cannot receive the nutrients they need to heal, nor can they flush away waste. Swelling prolongs soft-tissue injury.

Compression treatment relieves swelling and accelerates healing while mitigating future swelling. Compression treatment gives your body the time and conditions it needs to heal itself without common setbacks.

What Conditions and Illnesses Can Benefit from Compression Treatment?

By reducing swelling and fluid pooling, and improving circulation, compression treatment provides profound benefits for:

  • Post-workout soreness and muscle recovery
  • Soft-tissue injury like sprains and pulled muscles
  • Varicose veins
  • Lymphedema
  • Chronic venous insufficiency
  • Orthostatic hypertension
  • Skin ulcers and sores caused by swollen limbs
  • Diabetes
  • Swelling caused by pregnancy, congestive heart failure, or long hours spent standing
  • Whole-body circulation, including blood flow to the heart and brain
  • Overall quality of life

Compression treatment is also a common tool to prevent deep-vein thrombosis, especially for people who are immobile.

In addition to those physical benefits, compression therapy provides stress-relief similar to massage. Compression can even mimic the benefits of a weighted blanket, which also provides marked stress relief and emotional and mental health benefits.
