Did you know that waxing is way better than shaving? Sure regular shaving is painless and faster too. However, the aftermath of shaving is not as appealing as you think. Not to mention the fact that you need to do it more frequently.

Believe it or not, this had been a common practice in some cultures. The Middle Eastern societies considered it as a form of hygiene. The French nobility, on the other hand, had been removing hair since the 17th century.

There are dangers to shaving if you do not know how to do it properly. You can have problems with ingrown hair, itchiness, and unsightly regrowth. If you fail to shave even for two to three days, it will feel really itchy. This is why you need to seriously consider the benefits of going to a professional beautician and have yourself waxed.

What is waxing?

Let us start with the basic question – what does waxing mean? It is removing hair up to the hair follicles by using wax.

When this subject comes up, one word is brought to mind – Brazilian.

Having a Brazilian means you want a complete removal of the hard in your bikini area – from the front and all the way to the back. Sometimes, people choose to leave a small patch of hair – especially when the weather is cold. It can be a small strip, a triangle shape or a wider strip. If you go to a professional beautician, you can discuss with them the options that you have.

What is great about opting to wax instead of shaving is the hair growth. We mentioned that there is a chance that you will have problems with ingrown hair and regrowth. When you wax your hair instead the hair that will grow back will be softer and it will not be as dense as before. This is because when the hair is removed from the follicle, it discourages regrowth.

Not only that, it takes 3 to 4 weeks before you need to go back for a wax again. For first-timers, you usually have to be back for another session after 2 weeks. But after that, once a month should suffice.

Although getting a wax is more painful, the after-effects are preferable than shaving. You can take pain relievers before you go to your appointment. Not only that, the first time is usually when it is most painful. After that, the hair follicle will be weaker and that will make the sessions less painful.

What happens during waxing?

When you go to a professional beautician for a wax, you will be shown to a private room where you will be required to strip from the waist down. You will be asked to clean yourself with a wipe. Once you are done, lay back on the bed and cover yourself. The beautician will come in to give you a trim. The best length for this procedure is ⅛ of an inch. It is best to let the beautician do this. Hair that is too short will make the waxing difficult and probably more painful.

After the trim, some powder will be sprinkled on your skin to keep the wax from sticking to the sensitive parts of your skin.

The wax will now be applied on the sections where you want the hair to be removed. The wax will be left to harden for a short while before the wax is pulled off – bringing the hair with it. Having a professional beautician do this will ensure that the pull will be in the right direction of the hair growth. The beautician will have hygienic gloves on the whole time.

Once all the hair is removed, some products will be applied to your skin to keep the irritation down. Professional beauticians will only take 15 to 30 minutes to complete everything.

Do not be scared of the pain that is associated with waxing. As mentioned, it will get better in time. The more you complete the sessions, the less pain you will feel. This will allow you to enjoy the effects of the wax better.
